NEW Infant Simulators!
April 28, 2008
As part of our new Human Sexuality curriculum to educate our youth and empower them to make wise decisions, St. Joseph is now the proud parent of highly
realistic infant simulators.
The virtual “babies,” with many physical characteristics of a 3 month old,
offers computerized simulations that test parenting skills. The infant simulator is a 22-inch-long computerized doll weighing approximately 9lbs. It can breathe, cry, burp, and cough. It requires proper head support, rocking, diaper change, feeding, and burping. The infant simulator can also detect rough handling, neglect or improper care.
As any parent knows, the around-the clock care that a baby requires can be difficult, costly, time consuming, and exhausting. This new curriculum is designed to modify teen attitudes towards sexuality. Allowing students to take home the baby gives students a dose of reality. They interact with the curriculum that lets them experience parenthood in as real a way as possible. As a result, student's awareness of actual consequences of having sex which can lead to a baby is transformed from abstract concept to startling reality.
Qualitative Benefits of the program:
- Understand consequences of actions
- Understand financial and lifestyle impact
- Build Character - increase self respect and responsibilities
- Help students remain focus on academic standing and career development
- Break the cycle of teen pregnancy
This program was made possible by generous contributors such as Hudson Honda, United Way, Capital One Bank, Hudson Body Company, East Coast Collision and with the assistance of SSJ Holy Family Academy, and Ms. Ginnie Bailey MSMFT (Adolescent Therapist) and Mr. Clarke

School Selects Alternative Clean Energy Service for Students and Faculty
Saint Joseph’s of the Palisades High School has contracted with World Water & Power Corporation (WWPC), a leading developer of high power solar systems, to develop alternative clean energy services and to reduce our building’s electric costs.
Under the plan, Saint Joseph’s High School will purchase electrical energy generated by a solar electrical system installed by WWPC. The company designed and installed 750 electricity-producing solar panels on a new state of the art sealed membrane roof. The school will not incur any start-up costs for the installation and the plan guarantees energy savings for a minimum of 10 years.
Now close to completion, it is anticipated that the solar power system will provide for 50% of the school’s electricity at a 10% discount below regular utility rates. School Principal Bruce Segall stated, “This sophisticated installation represents the very latest in environmental friendly engineering. We hope to find ways that we might install energy saving windows as well.”
