NEW Infant Simulators!
April 28, 2008
As part of our new Human Sexuality curriculum to educate our youth and empower them to make wise decisions, St. Joseph is now the proud parent of highly realistic infant simulators. The virtual “babies,” with many physical characteristics of a 3 month old, offers computerized simulations that test parenting skills. The infant simulator is a 22-inch-long computerized doll weighing approximately 9lbs. It can breathe, cry, burp, and cough. It requires proper head support, rocking, diaper change, feeding, and burping. The infant simulator can also detect rough handling, neglect or improper care.

As any parent knows, the around-the clock care that a baby requires can be difficult, costly, time consuming, and exhausting. This new curriculum is designed to modify teen attitudes towards sexuality. Allowing students to take home the baby gives students a dose of reality. They interact with the curriculum that lets them experience parenthood in as real a way as possible. As a result, students awareness of actual consequences of having sex which can lead to a baby is transformed from abstract concept to startling reality.

This program was made possible by generous contributors such as Hudson Honda, United Way, Hudson Body Company, East Coast Collision and with the assistance of SSJ Holy Family Academy, and Ms. Ginnie Bailey MSMFT (Adolescent Therapist)
